Purpose:
High school students, Advisors, and Mentors, will gather for a full day session aimed at:

  1. Introducing the best and brightest students across the state to information science and technology (IS&T) career paths and educational opportunities at CSU.
  2. Build student awareness of the career opportunities for IS&T college graduates.
  3. Provide students with a first hand look at CSU IS&T departments and interact one-on-one with representatives from Colorado’s leading high tech corporations.
The day will consist of:
  • Contests – as requested by previous participants!  Student teams will compete for great prizes
  • Examples of last year’s contests:
    • Robot programming
    • GPS treasure hunt
    • Video production
    • Web page design
  • Demonstrations of IS&T technology at departments and labs around campus showcasing design projects, research, and facilities.
  • Meet current IS&T students, researchers, and faculty.  Meet Admissions personnel to ask your questions.
  • Meet with representatives from major IS&T companies in the state and learn about exciting careers and the future of a career in information science and technology.

Who Should Participate?
This event will be a fantastic opportunity to encourage the state’s brightest young minds to follow education paths leading to careers in information science and technology.  IS&T careers are ever changing and increasingly more dynamic and interesting occupations, but not necessarily understood by high school students making pivotal decisions regarding education tracks and career paths. Therefore, CSU would like to provide the opportunity to spend quality time with CSU IS&T department faculty, advisors, financial aid counselors, admissions counselors, and current students in a full-day activity designed to energize high school students to make an IS&T education decision.

Counselors or advisors are asked to identify students who have demonstrated interest and potential to continue their education at CSU in a program of study related to IS&T. These educational fields include, but are not limited to, computer science, mathematics, statistics, electrical and computer engineering, journalism and technical communications, computer information systems, geographic information systems, agricultural information systems, engineering education, or any discipline where students’ interest lie in the use of computing or computational systems.

What’s included?

  • Cost? $0  Your school’s participation is sponsored by CSU’s Information Science and Technology Center (ISTeC) and Colorado’s IS&T corporate sponsors.
  • Free CSU bus transportation to and from the Colorado Springs and Denver metro areas, and northeastern Colorado area from a defined central location
  • All participants will receive a T-shirt, goody bag, and informative materials for parents, counselors/advisors, and students.
